Welcome to my "Games and Politics" Web site. The purpose of my Web site is to keep tabs on the news media and politicians who want to use games as a convenient scapegoat every time some act of violence occurs in the United States.

New news 6/19/1999 19 Democrats and 127 Republicans voted for a measure in Congress that would have given the government carte blanche to censor... basically anything anyone might find objectionable, ever. Fortunately, 92 Republicans, 189 Democrats and 1 independant voted against the Hyde Amendment. Read the story in Next Generation on-line. New (7/2/99) Voting Record Links:

Update 6/19/99 : I've added a page about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Controversy to my Related Issues page, and have begun work on a more user-friendly version of the site. I plan to roll the new version of the site out on July 4th, 1999, as my way of expressing a respect for the men who signed the Declaration of Independance. Don't worry, I'll keep the old version of the site around for people with older browsers, too.

Important news story 6/12/1999 : The Columbine School was and is run by a corrupt administration that encourages violence among the student body! Why are there no investigations, or consequences among the people who turned this school into a haven for violent thugs? Why are our Senators and Representatives focusing on non-issues like games when the real truth is so readily available?!? My thoughts on why the government chooses to ignore the true causes of the Columbine tragedy while instead going after our Bill of Rights.

Our Adversaries- Who are the people opposed to us? Why are they attacking us? Their real agenda is much different than their stated agenda, in my opinion.

Their Tactics- Assaulting the Bill of Rights is no easy thing in the United States, but our opponents are using tactics to make it seem as if the First Amendment doesn't apply to games. Read about it here.

Their Agenda- 6/3/99 Since our opponents represent a diverse group, their agendas differ slightly. Of course, they haven't shared their agendas with me, but I'm a sharp observer of politics and I think I can figure out what is going on. Read my opinions here.

Related Issues- Update- 6/19/99 Politics is a messy business, most of the time one single issue (such as the First Amendment and games) will not be brought up without also bringing up a lot of related issues at the same time. How to handle these other issues is an important part of this debate. I can only tell you how I would handle this, click here to see..

Opposing Them- How can we defend ourselves against this assault?

Write Letters- Updated 6/02/99 As long as they can say things about games without anyone saying, "Hey! That just isn't true!" and pointing out the fallacies in their arguments, they will continue to do it. Read some sample letters I have written on this subject, here.

Know the Opposition- Updated 5/22/99. If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles- Sun Tzu, The Art of War In order to oppose journalists and politicians, we need a database of who's leading the attacks. That's something I will attempt to provide here.

Letter from a Friend- Prof. Henry Jenkins, a proffessor of media studies at MIT talks about his experience standing up for the First Amendment before the Senate. As you can imagine it was an ugly experience, but it helps to illustrate what is at stake here. Register and Vote!- The only thing that politicians fear is voters. Make sure you register and vote against politicians who are out to take our rights. I suggest the Libertarian party as the one which has the best track record in standing up for American rights, but party choice is, of course, a personal decision.
